Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0 to reach World Cup Round of 16

Julian Quinones scored one goal and provided an assist as Mexico secured a place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Ecuador on Tuesday.

Quinones opened the scoring at Mexico City Stadium following a swift counterattack before setting up Raul Jimenez to double Mexico's advantage.

The victory marked El Tri's first win in the World Cup knockout stage since the country last hosted the tournament in 1986.

Mexico will face either England or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Round of 16 in Mexico City on July 5.
