Klopp oversees Germany’s historic 62-year low after Greece loss

Jurgen Klopp's nightmare start as Germany boss continued on Sunday night with a shock defeat to Greece, according to talkSPORT.

The four-time World Cup winners were beaten 1-0 in the Nations League thanks to Dimitrios Kourbelis' second half strike.

It follows a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands on Thursday, leaving Klopp still awaiting his first win since taking charge.

Meanwhile, Germany's winless run now extends to four matches and dates back to a World Cup group stage victory over Ivory Coast on June 20.

Their latest setback sees Klopp's side lose to Greece for the first time in their history.

In ten previous meetings, Germany had claimed seven wins along with three draws between the two sides.

The result also puts a dent in their hopes of reaching the Nations League Finals.

Germany now trail group B leaders Greece by five points with four matches remaining.

They sit third in the standings behind the Netherlands, who beat Serbia earlier on Sunday.

Klopp, who succeeded Julian Nagelsmann as national team boss in August, will be hoping to bounce back against Serbia in Munich in his side's next outing on Thursday.

Germany will then conclude the international break with a trip to Greece.

The two sides meet again in Thessaloniki in a week's time on October 4.

As well as suffering Germany's first-ever defeat to Greece, Klopp has also failed to win either of his opening two matches in charge.

The former Liverpool boss is the first national team head coach to not win any of their first two fixtures for since 1964.

Helmut Schon was the last Germany manager to achieve the unwanted feat 62 years ago.

His side were held by Sweden and Italy in his first two matches before thrashing Cyprus 5-0 in their next outing.

Schon would go on to win the 1970 World Cup and 1972 Euros during a legendary 14-year tenure.

He also reached the finals of both the 1966 World Cup and 1976 Euros in that period.

Since Schon's departure, nine different permanent managers had picked up a win in their first two matches prior to Klopp's appointment.
