Khojaly genocide anniversary marked in Germany

An event commemorating the victims of the Khojaly genocide on the 34th anniversary of the tragedy was held in Berlin.

The event was co-organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany, the Azerbaijani Cultural Center, and the “Khari Bulbul” Azerbaijani Cultural House. The ceremony began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the tragedy, according to the embassy.

A short film about the Khojaly tragedy, produced in the German language by the embassy, was then screened for the participants.

Addressing the event, Sevda Badaliouri, head of the “Khari Bulbul” Azerbaijani Cultural House, emphasized that the Khojaly tragedy is one of the heaviest pages written in blood in the history of the Azerbaijani people.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev noted that the Khojaly tragedy was the first genocide committed in Europe following the end of the Cold War. The ambassador highlighted the brutality of the attack, which resulted in the deaths of 613 residents, including 63 children and 106 women. He added that 1,275 individuals were taken prisoner and subjected to torture, while the fate of 150 people remains unknown to this day. He noted that the international "Justice for Khojaly" campaign, initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, plays a vital role in spreading the truth about Khojaly to the world community.
