Ghana edge Panama 1–0 with late World Cup winner

Ghana’s Black Stars secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Panama on Wednesday in their Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Toronto Stadium in Canada.

The first half saw Panama holding the upper hand, while Ghana struggled to make an impact in attack. Ghana found it difficult to involve Antoine Semenyo in the game and faced a disciplined and resilient Panamanian defence.

Despite Panama’s control for long spells, neither side was able to break the deadlock before halftime.

The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Caleb Yirenkyi scored in the 90+5th minute to secure victory for Ghana. The goal came after a quick counter-attack, with a precise pass from Thomas-Asante setting up Yirenkyi for the finish.

Panama pushed forward aggressively in the closing minutes in search of an equaliser, but Ghana’s defence held firm and denied them a first World Cup point.

With this result, Ghana moved into second place in Group L, while Panama remained third in the standings.
