England beat Croatia 4–2 in World Cup thriller

England’s “Three Lions” secured a confident 4–2 victory over Croatia on Wednesday in their Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Dallas Stadium in the United States.

England were awarded an early penalty after Luka Modrić was penalised for a challenge that brought down Noni Madueke while attempting to clear a corner. Striker Harry Kane converted from the spot in the 12th minute to give England the lead.

Croatia responded after a difficult start, with Martin Baturina scoring the equaliser in the 36th minute. His powerful strike left England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with no chance.

England quickly regained the lead before halftime when Kane rose to head in Declan Rice’s corner in the 42nd minute.

However, Croatia struck again in first-half stoppage time, with Ivan Perišić delivering a precise pass for Petar Musa, who finished in the 45+5th minute.

The first half ended with both sides having led at different points, as England twice went ahead while Croatia twice fought back.

After the break, England came out with renewed intensity and regained control early in the second half. Jude Bellingham latched onto Elliot Anderson’s long pass, drove into the box, and finished past the goalkeeper in the 47th minute.

In the following minutes, England pressed repeatedly to extend their lead, but Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković and the defensive line resisted several attempts.

England eventually secured the result in the 85th minute when substitute Marcus Rashford calmly scored shortly after coming onto the pitch.

The match ended 4–2 in England’s favour, with the team finishing top of Group L, while Croatia dropped to the bottom of the group.
