Death toll from floods in India's Assam climbs to 78

The death toll from floods in Assam state, northeastern India, has risen to 78.

According to India's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 300,000 residents remain in disaster zones, with 551 settlements submerged.

The worst-hit area is Charaideo district, where over 137,000 people have been affected.

Floodwaters have damaged roads, homes, schools, and other infrastructure.
