Azerbaijan installs over 8,000 kW of solar panels in liberated lands

Solar panels with a total installed capacity of more than 8,000 kW have been installed across Azerbaijan's liberated territories, along with more than 8,000 LED lighting fixtures, according to the country's Energy Ministry.

The ministry said the installations have been carried out in more than 2,500 private homes, as well as public and social buildings in the liberated areas.

The update was presented during the 13th meeting of the Working Group on the Coordination and Monitoring of the Implementation of Green Technologies and Energy Efficiency in the liberated territories.

Officials also noted that around 43% of the lighting fixtures, or approximately 3,500 units, are solar-powered hybrid systems.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov spoke about the large-scale reconstruction and redevelopment activities being carried out in the liberated territories, which were declared a Green Energy Zone at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

The minister emphasized that the development of Karabakh and East Zangazur based on the principles of green technologies and energy efficiency has already become a model of best practice, and that the positive trends identified through ongoing monitoring further confirm this achievement.

Participants were informed about the residential settlements, social and public infrastructure, including energy facilities, whose foundation stones were laid or which were inaugurated during the President's visits to the cities of Jabrayil, Zangilan, Khojaly, Fuzuli, Khankandi, Shusha and Aghdam, as well as the Khojavand and Lachin districts since the previous meeting. In this context, it was noted that the opening ceremonies of Shukurbayli village, Azerenerji OJSC's 330 kV Shafag Substation in Soltanli village, and several hydropower plants in Lachin had taken place.

Javid Abdullayev, Director of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), presented updates on the construction of solar power plants in Jabrayil, the progress in the construction of four hydropower plants in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts through private sector investment, as well as the advancement of measurement and monitoring activities carried out in preparation for the construction of a wind power plant in Kalbajar. It was noted that the electricity demand in the liberated territories is not only fully met through green energy sources, but that surplus generation is also supplied to the country's integrated power grid.

Then the reports were heard on the results of monitoring the implementation of green technologies and energy efficiency measures in the city of Aghdam, several villages of the Khojavand district, as well as the settlements of Girmizi Bazar and Hadrut at the meeting. Updates were also presented on the current status of the registration of citizens as active consumers in Horovlu village of the Jabrayil district and in the Khidirli and Kangarli villages of the Aghdam district.

Information was also provided on electric vehicle charging infrastructure, as well as insulation measures implemented in residential houses and other buildings.

The meeting also reviewed issues related to heat supply in residential complexes. At the conclusion of the discussions, agreement was reached on taking the necessary measures to implement the proposals put forward.
