Serbia thwarts assassination plot against President Vučić

Two men have been arrested in the Serbian city of Kraljevo on suspicion of plotting an assassination attempt against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, as well as against members of his family and employees of the Interior Ministry, according to BGNES.

Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia in Kraljevo, working in coordination with the Security and Information Agency (BIA), detained two local residents identified as D. R. (born in 1975) and M. R. (born in 1983).

Authorities allege that between December 2025 and February 2026, the suspects planned a violent change of power and the overthrow of Serbia’s highest state authorities.

According to investigators, the two men agreed to obtain weapons and carry out attacks targeting President Vučić, his wife and children, as well as employees of the Interior Ministry, whom they allegedly intended to physically harm.

The suspects have been placed in custody for 48 hours and are expected to be brought before the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo for further proceedings.

In response to the arrests, Miloš Vučević, chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party and an adviser to the president, said the alleged plot followed what he described as a “relentless monstrous campaign” against Vučić.

Writing on the social network X, Vučević argued that sustained efforts to “dehumanize the president and his family” had created an atmosphere in which violence against the head of state appeared normalized.

“Their plans have been thwarted and always will be. They will not kill Vučić and they will not stop Serbia,” Vučević said.

Authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
