Pashinyan: Armenian government set to resign on August 2

Following the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections, the Armenian government will resign on August 2 to allow the formation of a new cabinet, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during today's government meeting, according to Armenian media.

"We will resign on Sunday (August 2). Today is the last meeting of the government in this composition," he stated.

Pashinyan reminded that, by law, the outgoing government resigns on the day of the first session of the newly elected parliament. Afterward, the President of Armenia will appoint the candidate for prime minister nominated by the parliamentary majority.

In the June 7 elections, Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract Party won, securing the right to independently form the new government.
