Nike to slash 1,400 jobs amid global restructuring

US sportswear giant Nike said it will cut about 1,400 jobs globally as part of changes to its Global Operations team, with most of the reductions affecting technology roles, according to Anadolu Agency.

In a note to employees, Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy said the company is in the “final stretch” of its “Win Now” action plan aimed at strengthening its business model.

“Across the company, we have been taking deliberate steps to strengthen our foundation, sharpen how we compete, and build a model designed to deliver long-term profitable growth,” he said.

Nike said the restructuring will impact team structures, work locations and headcount over the coming weeks as it seeks to make operations faster, simpler and more precise.

“These reductions are very hard for the teammates directly affected and for the teams around them, too,” Alagirisamy added.

The company said it is reshaping its technology division to create leaner teams, consolidate its footprint and focus on two main hubs: its headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and the Nike India Technology Center.

Nike also announced changes to its Air Manufacturing Innovation operations in Beaverton, St. Louis and Vietnam, saying staffing levels will be adjusted to better align with business needs and improve efficiency.

In addition, the company said it will move some Converse footwear manufacturing and engineering resources closer to factory partners, while aligning materials operations more closely with its supply chain teams.

Nike said the measures are designed to reduce complexity, improve responsiveness and strengthen its foundation for future growth.
