Monaco fined €25,000 per match under Sébastien Pocognoli

Despite leading Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to the Belgian title last season, he is still studying for his professional coaching qualification, which is due this summer. French regulations require a qualified head coach to be named for any domestic league or cup game, otherwise the fine applies.

Monaco were aware when he replaced Adi Hütter in October and considered assistant Damien Perrinelle as a proxy on the team sheet. Perrinelle received a pay rise and was listed for the Toulouse FC match that month.

However, Perrinelle also lacks the correct qualification, so the fine was incurred anyway. Since then the head coach field has been left blank on official team sheets.

Pocognoli has overseen 17 domestic matches, 14 in Ligue 1 and three in the Coupe de France, taking the total to €425,000. Should he remain in the head coach role until the end of the season, the fine will rise to €750,000.

In Ligue 1 under Pocognoli, Monaco have won just four of those 14 matches.
