Media Development Agency calls on Azerbaijani, Turkish journalists to combat disinformation

The Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a formal statement regarding a coordinated disinformation campaign targeting the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

“Instances of the dissemination of disinformation containing information of dubious origin and not reflecting reality, aimed at damaging the strategic allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, have been observed in a number of foreign online news channels and social media segments. As a result of preliminary investigations, it has been determined that this disinformation campaign originated from the resource ‘Tsargrad.tv’ in the Russian-language segment of the internet,” the Agency stated.

The statement continued: “We strongly condemn and emphasize the unacceptability of such disinformation activities, which are directed against our country, seek to mislead public opinion through fake and manipulative content, and serve to target the existing fraternal and allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. We call on journalists and media entities of Azerbaijan and Türkiye to uphold a principled stance against such disinformation attempts, to refrain from disseminating unverified information, and to act responsibly in safeguarding the information environment. At the same time, we urge the public of both countries not to believe fake information and to rely solely on statements issued by official bodies.”

The Media Development Agency emphasized that it will continue its effective cooperation with the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye to prevent such incidents and ensure the formation of a unified stance in the information space.
