Iran fires ballistic missiles at Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility

Iran launched a fresh ballistic missile attack targeting Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, which houses a major liquefied natural gas hub, the Qatari Defense Ministry said Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The missiles struck the site and caused damage, the ministry said in a post on the US social media company X’s platform.

In a separate statement, QatarEnergy said that in the early hours of Thursday, several of its liquefied natural gas facilities were targeted by missile attacks, causing sizeable fires and extensive damage.

Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the damage, with no casualties reported, according to the company.

On Wednesday, QatarEnergy reported a missile attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar’s main site for the production of liquefied natural gas.

A regional escalation has intensified since Israel and the US launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing around 1,300 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
