Cuba suffers fresh nationwide blackout

Cuba's National Electric Power System (SEN) has once again suffered a complete nationwide outage.

The country's state-owned electric utility said the national power grid collapsed entirely at 10:43 p.m. local time on August 2.

The latest blackout came a day after the system experienced a partial failure that left several provinces in western and central Cuba without electricity. In July, the SEN also endured three complete nationwide blackouts within an eight-day period.

Cuban authorities have blamed the prolonged energy crisis on the longstanding U.S. trade, economic and financial embargo, as well as tighter U.S. sanctions, including restrictions on fuel supplies.
