Baku Energy Week: Driving the global shift toward green energy

Baku has once again positioned itself at the center of the global energy industry. One of the most prestigious and large-scale events in the region, Baku Energy Week, has officially opened its doors for participants for the 31st time.

According to “Stabil.az”, the event serves as a strategic platform that shapes not only Azerbaijan’s future energy development trajectory but also influences the broader global energy map. For many years, the forum has focused on traditional oil and gas projects; however, in recent years it has evolved into a key dialogue platform addressing modern challenges such as renewable energy and the “green transition”.

Three major events are held within the framework of Baku Energy Week — the 31st International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition “Caspian Oil and Gas”, the 14th Caspian International Clean Energy Exhibition “Caspian Power”, and the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

This year’s Baku Energy Week has brought together a total of 274 companies from 44 different countries around the world. Participating countries include, alongside host Azerbaijan, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, China (including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Türkiye, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India, Canada, and many other countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Notably, Germany and Russia are represented at the event through national pavilions.

It should also be noted that 35% of the participants are taking part in the exhibition for the first time. As a clear sign of strong international interest in Azerbaijan’s energy, oil, and gas sector, approximately 60% of the participants are foreign companies, while the remaining 40% are local brands. This structure demonstrates a well-balanced combination of international cooperation and local industry engagement. At the same time, 40% of the exhibition space is occupied by major industry players who are long-term partners of the project, many of whom also act as sponsors, reflecting their continued support for the sector.

It is well known that Azerbaijan has been recognized for decades as a reliable partner in ensuring oil and gas energy security for Europe and the wider region. Major projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor form the backbone of this strategy. Over time, Azerbaijan has not only maintained its role as an exporter of fossil fuels but has also increasingly drawn attention for its transformation into a developing green energy hub.

In this context, the target of increasing the share of renewable energy in Azerbaijan’s domestic energy balance to 30% by 2030 serves as a key foundation of ongoing discussions.

This year’s Baku Energy Week is also seen as a natural continuation of Azerbaijan’s leadership role in global climate policy. Following major international climate conferences hosted by the country, the event once again highlights Baku’s commitment to the environmental pledges it has made. Panel discussions held within the forum focus on identifying ways to accelerate the transformation of the energy sector in response to global warming.

Some of the world’s largest energy companies are showcasing their latest technological innovations and green energy projects at the platform. In particular, investments allocated by Gulf-based investment funds for the construction of solar and wind power plants in Azerbaijan, along with newly signed contracts, demonstrate the practical impact of Baku Energy Week.

It should be noted that Baku Energy Week is not only a platform for discussions and statements, but also a commercial hub where new official partnerships are formed and billion-dollar contracts are signed. The bilateral B2B (Business-to-Business) and G2B (Government-to-Business) meetings organized during the event help local companies access foreign markets and stimulate the inflow of direct investment from the non-oil sector into the national economy.

The 31st Baku Energy Week once again shows that Azerbaijan is an indispensable partner in ensuring global energy security, not only through its traditional resources but also through a forward-looking and progressive vision. The event provides valuable experience and networking opportunities for all industry representatives seeking to transform the challenges of the global energy transition into opportunities. The message from Baku to the world remains clear: the energy of the future must be cleaner, more efficient, and safer — and Azerbaijan is actively contributing to building that future.
