Algeria closes airspace to UAE aircraft

Algeria will close its airspace to all civil and military aircraft belonging to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting September 11, the country’s Ministry of National Defence said.

The restriction will not apply to commercial civilian flights operating to Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algeria.

Such flights will continue to be permitted through the end of 2026, as long as the relevant agreement remains in effect.

The decision comes after Algeria’s Foreign Ministry announced that it was severing diplomatic relations with the UAE, saying all options for preserving bilateral ties had been exhausted.
