Qarabağ make history with Champions League knockout spot

Azerbaijan's Qarabağ FK have made history by qualifying for the UEFA Champions League play-off round, becoming the first Azerbaijani club to reach this stage of the competition—despite a heavy defeat away to Liverpool.

The match at Anfield ended in a 6–0 victory for the hosts. Liverpool’s goals were scored by Alexis Mac Allister (2), Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa.

Despite the loss, Qarabağ finished 22nd in the league phase with 10 points—enough to secure progression to the knockout play-off stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Qarabağ’s opponent in the play-offs will be determined at the draw ceremony scheduled for January 30.
