Trump says US, Iran to hold talks, cites Hormuz deal

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling to Washington, Trump said negotiations would begin later in the day and voiced hope that the dialogue would help prevent further escalation.

"We will be engaging with them through negotiations. They will begin tomorrow afternoon. I hope that happens. It would save many lives and help avoid further tensions," the U.S. president said.

Trump also claimed that Washington and Tehran had already reached an agreement regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the next step would be to finalize an agreement on Iran's nuclear program and the country's denuclearization.

"There is a deal on the Strait of Hormuz, and then there will be a deal on the nuclear program, or, as I call it, the denuclearization of Iran," Trump said.
