Road projects to Azerbaijan–Armenia border scheduled for completion in 2027: Minister

“The Azerbaijani state is rapidly fulfilling its obligations. First and foremost, the implementation of railway and highway projects is already at a high level. These two projects are expected to reach the border with Armenia by early 2027,” said Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a joint press conference held with Ignazio Cassis, Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, according to AZERTAC.

The Azerbaijani FM highlighted the existing railway spanning approximately 180 kilometers within the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. However, he said, since the line has not been operational for about 30 years, additional investment and large-scale reconstruction work are required to restore it, adding that the process has already begun on this track.

"The Kars-Iğdır-Dilucu railway is another significant project. The construction process has already started and is successfully ongoing in the territory of brotherly Türkiye.

Its implementation and timely completion will open new opportunities for regional development. This will not only serve the restoration of communications between the Azerbaijani mainland and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, but will also add a new dimension to the East–West and the Middle Corridor routes," Bayramov emphasized.
