Nearly 56,000 households lose power as Typhoon Dolphin hits Japan

Nearly 56,000 households on Japan's Amami Islands and in Okinawa Prefecture have been left without electricity as a result of powerful Typhoon Dolphin.

According to Japan's national public broadcaster, wind gusts in the typhoon's area over the ocean have reached 60 meters per second, while gusts in Naha, the administrative capital of Okinawa, have reached 30 meters per second. Typhoon Dolphin is also bringing heavy rainfall to the region. Forecasters estimate that up to 180 millimeters of rain could fall in Okinawa by the morning of August 9.

The typhoon is currently moving at a speed of around 15 kilometers per hour toward the coast of China.
