A landmine explosion occurred on September 10 near Papravand village in Azerbaijan’s liberated Aghdara district, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA).

Tartar district resident Sarkhan Rustamzada, born in 2005, was riding a horse through an uncleared area when he stepped on an anti-personnel mine. He sustained minor injuries in the explosion.

ANAMA personnel evacuated Rustamzada from the hazardous area.

The Tartar District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the incident.

ANAMA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office once again urged citizens to comply with safety rules, pay close attention to mine warning signs, avoid touching suspicious objects, stay out of unfamiliar areas and refrain from entering locations where fencing work is underway.
