Iran's supreme leader approves clemency for 2,577 convicts

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has approved a request to pardon, commute, or reduce the sentences of 2,577 convicts.

According to IRNA, the decision followed an appeal by Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Jafar al-Sadiq.

In his letter, Mohseni-Eje'i requested clemency for prisoners convicted by general and revolutionary courts, the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, and the State Criminal Organization.

Khamenei instructed the judiciary chief to implement the decision on pardons and sentence reductions.
