Azerbaijan was one of first countries to join int'l alliance in fight against terrorism: Presidential aide
“Just 25 years ago, there was a dreadful and horrific terrorist act committed in New York City against the United States. It was not only against the United States; it was against humanity. And we remember this dreadful day and also pay tribute to all the innocent victims of terrorism,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, as he addressed representatives of the diplomatic corps at the Khankendi Cultural Center, according to AZERTAC.
According to him, Azerbaijan is also a country that suffered from terrorism, particularly in the early 1990s.
“More than 32 terrorist acts were committed in Azerbaijan. And the Baku Metro, unfortunately, was the first place where a terrorist attack was committed in the early 1990s. Therefore, as a country that suffered from terrorism and such atrocities in the early 1990s, Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to join the international alliance in the fight against terrorism. Once again, our condolences and tribute go to the 9/11 victims, as well as to all the victims of terrorism around the world,” the Presidential Assistant added.
