Armenia court arrests former ex-president Robert Kocharyan

The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia has ordered the arrest of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan for two months, Sputnik Armenia reported.

Kocharyan faces charges of particularly large-scale money laundering, abuse of official authority and accepting a particularly large bribe.

Armenian media reported that the court hearing, chaired by Judge Sargis Dadoyan, began the previous day. During the night, Kocharyan was taken to a hospital on medical advice, and the proceedings continued without his direct participation.

According to investigators, Kocharyan, while serving as president, colluded with other individuals to acquire a number of public and economic properties at prices below their market value by abusing his official position.

Six people have been detained as part of the criminal proceedings, including Kocharyan, his son and other individuals.
