Armed man detained near Trump's California golf club

An armed man was detained by law enforcement officers near the Trump National golf club in Southern California.

According to CNN and a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, federal agents alerted local authorities about a suspicious individual on the golf club's property, after which the man was taken into custody.

A federal law enforcement source told CNN that there is currently no indication the suspect was planning an assassination attempt against US President Donald Trump. However, the investigation remains ongoing.

Trump is scheduled to visit Los Angeles later today to attend an event hosted by the Republican National Committee.

Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jenin John Tayl of Downey. He is also the subject of a robbery investigation being conducted by the El Segundo Police Department.
