10-Man Lens stun PSG to lift French Super Cup

Lens overcame a first-half red card for defender Kyllian Antonio to battle to a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophee de Champions at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Captain Florian Thauvin gave Lens, who won the Coupe de France for the first time last season, the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute.

Antonio was then shown a straight red card six minutes before halftime following a late challenge on Maghnes Akliouche.

European champions PSG, who lifted the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night after defeating Aston Villa in Salzburg, saw a late equaliser from Fabián Ruiz ruled out for offside. Substitute Nuno Mendes was also sent off with four minutes remaining for lashing out at Michal Skoras.

Both Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye were absent from PSG's squad for the match amid links surrounding a possible move to Liverpool for the pair.

Lens secured the victory under new coach Dino Toppmöller, who was appointed in June following Pierre Sage's departure to Crystal Palace.

Incoming France coach Zinedine Zidane was in attendance at Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens for the final.
